Mice Update

Well, I am happy to say we don't have any nesting mice in the compost box! Robert emptied it all out and went through it. (I was too scared to do it on my own in case we found a nest of babies because at that point their fate would have been horribly sealed).

There wasn't any evidence of any nest or tunneling, and in fact most of the box was pretty damp and well composted down. I have now moved the box further away from the house and put all the compost back. I will be sure to bury any veggies I am composting from now on and not just leave them in the top as I have been doing, this may be a deterrent.

This whole incident also finally forced us to clean out the garage too which was long overdue. All the clutter is now gone and we have lots of bags for Goodwill so all in all it was a good day.

Did I mention what wonderful weather we are having? I am always struck by how amazingly happy something simple like opening the windows in the house can make me feel. Priceless!

Glad to hear that the weather (and open windows!) are making you feel better. I know that it was working for me.

Thanks Leaner and I am glad you are feeling better too. The hot weather really does have a profoundly negative effect on me though I forget quite how much every year.

Me too Wendy! :)

Sounds like you had a busy day for sure. You must be getting into the comfortable part of the season now? For us it is much different. We are getting our first snow as I sit and type this. Sigh.

I definitely hate September here....I love just going outside and working here and there....it's fun. Soooo....
I was talking to my mother on the phone this morning....she also had the same issue happen to her and I thought of you. My Mom said to not be too concerned as it is normal, but just keep your eyes out for any nests, etc. You guys are like me....when I see something like that, I freak out and clean clean clean....but only because it happened to me once and I never want it to happen again! Very costly mistake on my part. Packrats are terrible!

Weather has been so nice. I did a lot of reorganizing over the weekend, too. Stuff that had been waiting all summer to be done. Ah. Feels good.

i am always amazed at how much wildlife (hey! mice fit in to that category right?) you have in your garden. :)

If only we ended up with bags for charity after we cleaned out the garage. I think the hubby decided he didn't want to part with anything! Fortunately, we did manage to throw some things away (empty or dried out paint cans) that had been sitting around for ten years.

It is a great feeling to declutter any room. As for the mice: yeek.

Christine in Alaska, still some clutter, no mice

We once had rats coming up through the bottom of the compost bin so they could drag our offerings down to their lair.

We have mice in our shed, I am sure of it. Getting the time to clear it out (which is what it needs) is a challenge too far - so they eat the grass seed and old cardboard boxes and anything else they can find.

Thanks Rohrerbot for your kind words! To be truthful I haven't been blogging because I haven't really been doing much that warrants any blogging recently I am afraid. I hope to be back soon. In the meantime, keep up your beautiful blog and I wish you a wonderful New Year that brings you all that you hope and wish for. xx
